The 10-step Program

Ha. I know what you're thinking... I'm missing two steps. Nope. This is the 10 Step Program to Home Ownership, which might drive me to drink and subsequently into the 12 steps but for now I'm just looking at the 10.

I've decided to document these steps here, and probably some of the in-between steps that they don't tell you about. I've already discovered a great deal of confusion and stress associated with the home ownership path, and the place hasn't even flooded yet.

Quickly, to clarify, I don't have a home in mind as yet. I actually have been through the first few steps of the 10, but I'm not to the point that I actually have ownership of a bathroom to flood. Yet. But I do want to tell you what these steps are so you have something to look forward to. Ok- "look forward to".

  1. Define Needs for Your New Home
  2. Pre-Approval vs Pre-Qualification
  3. Neighborhood Information
  4. Home Search
  5. Make an Offer
  6. Negotiating to Buy
  7. Service Provider Coordination
  8. Before You Close
  9. Closing on a Home
  10. Post-Closing

Please feel free to post comments about this process (the two of you reading my blog) because I'd love the feedback. The fact that I am writing about this should in NO WAY be used to infer that I know what's going on or have some valuable insight. I'm just hoping my inevitable mistakes prove a warning to others.

Enjoy.
